Being Productive in Your Space
Being Productive in Your Space
In the last 2 years our worlds have been completely turned upside down, including where most of us conduct our work. While offices are beginning to reopen, one thing COVID taught many of us and major employers was that not all work has to be done from the office and that the majority are actually more productive working from home, due to this revelation it is estimated that about 62% of the world’s workers will have a hybrid schedule going forward.
With working from home not appearing to be headed out the door anytime soon now may be the time to invest in your at home workspace. This can require some research-- what is the best kind of desk? Are there health benefits to more scheduled breaks? Laptop or desktop? We’ve done some of the research for you and are ready to share our findings!
Stationary or portable?
One of the most important investments you can make in your at home workspace is your device. While some work such as quick responses, posts, etc can be handled efficiently from our phones/tablets most of the work we do; reviewing blueprints, creating quotes, and figuring quantities is best handled on either a full size laptop (15-17 inch) or a desktop computer. These larger screen sizes and more advanced “insides” allow for you to accurately view and create more precise detailed final projects.
Breaks, breaks, and more breaks!
It is so easy to get caught up in a busy day – it starts at 8AM and next thing you know you’re hunched over and notice the clock says 4:15 PM. Research indicates that quick breaks (5-10 minutes even) can completely revamp your focus and overall feelings towards work. It is also noted that taking a full break to eat a balanced lunch instead of cramming that burger into your mouth at your desk is more beneficial and allows for a recharge enabling you to be able to finish out your day with a clear mind and is more likely to allow you to get more work completed than if you work through lunch!
What about the rest of the home office?
Some other game changers as far as working from home in this industry all deal with what makes up the rest of your office. A quiet space just for working is deemed to be more beneficial than working from your bed or even working on the couch while you watch TV. Another concern is posture while working – sitting at a desk or table it is easy to slump over, an easy fix for this? A Standing Desk – these desks are usable in a sitting position but also raise allowing you to stand and work comfortably showing to improve posture overtime, a nice cushioned floor mat can improve “working posture” as well!
Working from home doesn’t appear to be going anywhere in the near future. With home offices becoming the new normal, now is the time to think about what you need and don’t need in yours!
